World War II, also known as the Second World War, began on September 1, 1939, and ended on the 2nd of September 1945. This war was a widespread catastrophic war and began in Europe when Germany invaded Poland. Adolf Hitler said that the invasion was an act of defense but the allied powers were not convinced. Later on he said the “Conquest of Poland” to give Lebensraum, or living space, to the German people "Germans Invade Poland.". During this war there was a genocide of Jews, Gypsies, Slavic people, and Homosexuals "Introduction to the Holocaust.". There were two sides of power: the Axis and the Allies. The Allies were comprised of France, Britain, Poland, South Africa, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and later America. The Axis powers contained Germany, Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Italy, who later backed off from the war. The war ended with the defeat of Germany on May 7, 1945 and the surrender of the Japan "1945: Germany Signs Unconditional Surrender."
World War II Was Just
World War II was a just war because the United States followed the just war principle that says “A just war can only be waged as a last resort. All non-violent options must be exhausted.” The United States had a foreign policy called the “U.S. Declaration of Neutrality.” The only reason the United States went to war is because Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The bombing killed more than 2,500 people, wounded 1,000, and damaged or destroyed 18 ships and almost 300 airplanes "5 Facts About Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona.".
World War II Was Not Just
During World War II the Allied powers used unconventional methods to stop the forward momentum of the Axis powers. Some of these tactics seemed unwarranted and unethical. This includes the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. People oppose this because it caused the death of many non-combatant people. Furthermore this was not the only time non-combatants were killed, tactics including air raids were often used to destroy targets but often did not differentiate combatant and non-combatant targets "BBC News." People believe that because of the pride that Japan had they would not surrender without drastic measures, this theory was displayed when the Japanese people kept fighting after the first atomic bomb being dropped in Hiroshima.
